EVOLUTION OF THE WETLAND FROM SOUTH PART OF MOLDAVIAN PLAIN

Minea Ionut, Butelca Doru, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Romania

Abstract

Analysis of the evolution and spread of wetlands in various stages historical and geographical, in a given region, is of major theoretical and practical importance as elements of landscape or economic sources with complex functions. In preparing this paper we started from the analysis of cartographic materials, from those published in 1894 (1:25,000 scale), and later on in 1920 (scale 1:20000 directory plans), 1961 (1:25,000 scale ) or 1984 (scale 1:25,000). To these were added and analysis of satellite images from 1990 and 2000 or 1:5000 scale ortho-fotoplans made in 2000 and 2006. Evolution of the wetlands from southern part Moldovian Plain was strictly conditioned by the hydraulic works at the level of the river (lakes, dams, drainage, land works or extension of roads or settlements networks etc.) that have significantly reduced their surface. Currently the surface was reduced by over 60% of the half a century ago and the environmental impacts are strongly resented the local ecosystems and human communities who put the issue of limiting human intervention and restore the original ecosistems.

Keywords: wetlands, evolution, hystorical maps analysis, antrophic influence, Moldavian Plain
