DANUBE FLOODRISK PROJECT, A STORY FOR THE DANUBE FLOODPLAIN MAPPING

Adler Mary-Jeanne, National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management, Romania

Abstract

Danube Floodrisk Project was granted by Interreg IVB SEE Programme for the first call for integrating efforts for flood mapping along the Danube, the first international river basin in Europe. All countries along the Danube are represented by 25 partners and observer partners, including national administrations, environment protection agencies, research units, universities and NGOs, under the ICPDR umbrella, all being stakeholders with different decision roles in flood management. The main objective of the project was to adopt a harmonized methodology for flood hazard and risk mapping, will be applied all along the Danube River. The main output of the project is the Hazard and Risk Maps Atlas and designing the project site for posting these maps, giving access to all interested parties. At the end of the project the information will be transferred to the ICPDR, who took in charge to prepare the integrated report for flood hazard and risk maps for the Danube Basin.
