Observations on the Pressures and Their Impact upon the Water Resources in the Trotus River Basin
Abstract: Trotus River Basin is characterized by a wide variety of landforms with different lithologies, with large drainage slopes (especially in its upper regions), with rich natural resources and intensive human activities in the petrochemical industry, oil and coal extraction.Due to the draining of a subsoil rich in oil, natural gas, coal and salt, the waters of the Trotus river and of some of its tributaries are overloaded with salts and, on some sections, with iridescent oil.  In addition to the natural load of salt, the ground and surface waters in the Trotus river basin endure anthropic pressures caused by the human agglomerations of Moinesti, Comanesti, Tg. Ocna, Onesti, as well as by the material derived from wood processing and stored illegally in the riverbed, having a great impact on the quality of water resources and on the adjacent aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The water resources in the Trotus river basin are also subject to quantitative, as well as hydromorphological pressures, which, under certain critical conditions, influence both the optimal water feeding of human agglomerations and the provision of optimal conditions for the sustainable development of aquatic ecosystems. In this thesis we intend to present several aspects regarding these pressures, as well as means to evaluate their impact upon ground and surface water resources in the Trotus river basin.

Keywords: river basin, water resources, anthropic pressures
