RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUSPENDED SEDIMENT LOAD AS RISK PHENOMENON FOR RESERVOIRS WARPING AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS.
Abstract. Future sustainable development presumes, as well. A good management of water resources, including those stored behind dams. This paper argues why the suspended sediment load on rivers is a risk phenomenon for reservoirs warping highlighting a series of territorial differentiation of alluvial production. In this respect it is noted that, although the mountain area occupies 21% of Romania, it provides 66% of the amount of water, with very small amounts of sediment yield values while the sub-Carpathian area, with only 12% of the land, produces 44% of the alluvial production. In the category of environmental factors that determine the suspended sediment load there have been analyzed rocks: with their resistance to erosion, soil cover, vegetation and human activities that may change or not the regime of solid flow. As example, there are calculated, for a series of related catchment reservoirs, the specific average flow of suspended sediment load and the average of geological resistance coefficient. Those two variables are correlated in inverse relationship, proving that, the lower basin surface resistance, the higher specific average flow of suspended sediment load is, so the risk of reservoirs warping is higher.
