SOMEŞ PLATEAU WATER RESOURCES TERRITORIAL VARIABILITY
Abstract. The Somes Plateau resides in the northwestern part of the vast intracarpathian area, named in the geographical literature the Transylvanian Depression. For the evaluation and distribution of water resources we used data from seven gauging stations located on local rivers. The used data series covered the years between 1970 and 2008. The relationship between the altitude and the yearly values, of the two mentioned components of the water balance, highlight several areas, where the runoff increase with the altitude, occurs differentially. This highlights different conditions and territorial distribution of the water resources. The water resource distribution was examined at the level of river basins (over 10 km,2) and also on geographical sub-units. In these areas the analysis of the water resources was computed also on altitudinal intervals. In conclusion the territorial distribution of water resources in the Somes Plateau is determined primarily by the humidity and the morphometrical and morphological characteristics of the relief, from which the most important role is played by the exposure to the advection of western humid air masses.
